What I Do
My areas of expertise include:
Corporate Journalism
I have worked for a number of in-house publications. I wrote content for and managed the monthly publication of Anglo American and De Beers’ Interface. For two years, I wrote a monthly news column for De Beers’ sightholders. As a freelancer, I now write articles for SAP’s award-winning magazines SAP World and Spectrum and for EMBO’s EMBOencounters. I am skilled at adapting to a house style, am committed to deadlines and producing copy that is fresh and exciting to read.
Print Media
A journalist by training, I have written for newspapers, magazines and websites. I worked on three South African dailies — The Star, The Citizen and The Witness — writing crime and court reports. I currently write for Buzzine, a Hollywood entertainment ezine and have published articles in the South African Marie Claire.
Marketing
I craft marketing messages in the form of brochures, white papers and success stories, both for on- and offline use. I enjoy producing original content and excel at repurposing existing materials in original ways.
Editing
I have a knack for a well-turned sentence and love putting life into tired copy. I edit documents with an eye for grammar, flow, meaning and effectiveness. Having worked in Germany for many years, I am especially alert to the typical errors made by second-language speakers writing in English.
Technical Documentation
Technical documentation is a set of directions where one step logically follows another. I ensure that documentation is clear and user-friendly. I write software documentation, system help, online help and offline instruction manuals and am experienced with a variety of tools.
